Free vs paid backlink indexers
Published · By IndexChex
Free backlink indexing means discovery tricks (linking, feeds, pings) or a vendor's free allowance, such as Links Indexer's 100 links a day or 100 free tokens at SpeedyIndex. Paid indexers add volume, published timing, index verification and, at some vendors, refunds. Free methods suit a handful of links; paid tools suit recurring campaigns.
Two meanings of free
"Free backlink indexer" covers two different things. One is a set of do-it-yourself discovery methods that cost nothing but time. The other is the free allowance some paid vendors give away. They behave very differently, and neither is the same as a paid service with reporting.
Free discovery methods
All of these try to put the backlink page in Googlebot's path:
- Link to it from a page you control that Google already crawls often. Googlebot follows the link on its next visit.
- Share it in a feed or social post that gets crawled.
- Ask the publisher to run Search Console's Request Indexing. Google limits this to the site's own property, applies a daily cap, and says a request "does not guarantee" indexing (Google help).
None needs money, and none reports back. Timing depends on how often Google revisits the page doing the linking, which for a small site can be days or weeks. There is also no index confirmation, so the work has to be paired with manual checks. Pinging services and IndexNow are often listed as free indexers too, but IndexNow only covers participating engines and requires control of the site (why IndexNow doesn't help backlinks). Search Console and the Indexing API have the same ownership problem, covered on Search Console alternatives for backlinks.
Free plans from paid vendors
| Vendor | Free allowance | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Links Indexer | Free plan, 100 links a day, no card | linksindexer.com |
| SpeedyIndex | 100 tokens on registration (one indexed link at 100 tokens each) | en.speedyindex.com |
| IndexBolt | 100 free credits, no card | indexbolt.com |
| IndexChex | None | pricing |
These allowances run the real product, so they are a fair way to test a vendor's dashboard and timing. They are small: SpeedyIndex's grant covers a single indexed link, and IndexBolt's covers 100 URLs. Links Indexer's daily allowance is the only one large enough for ongoing use; the vendor publishes no indexing rate and says it generally does not issue refunds.
What paid adds
Paid backlink indexers differ from free methods in four ways:
- Volume. Batches of thousands of URLs per job (10,000 at Rapid URL Indexer and IndexChex standard).
- Published timing. Vendors state crawl or indexing windows, from minutes for instant tiers to several days.
- Verification. Most include reports or an index checker, so a buyer knows which links indexed.
- Refunds. SpeedyIndex, Rapid URL Indexer, Omega Indexer and IndexMeNow return credit for links that fail to index.
Prices on the pages checked on 2026-10-08 ranged from $0.0014 per submitted URL at IndexChex's largest pack to about $0.98 per credit on IndexMeNow's smallest pack. The comparison table lists every vendor with sources.
Where the free-to-paid line sits
The cost of a free method is labour and uncertainty. For five guest posts a month, linking them from your own blog and checking by hand is reasonable. For a citation campaign of 2,000 directory listings, the manual route stops being free: nobody will check 2,000 URLs by hand, and an unverified link may not be counted at all.
At that point the paid question is about model, not whether to pay. Refund-based vendors cost more per URL but return credit for failures; per-submission vendors cost less and leave the risk with the buyer. Pay-per-indexed vs credit pricing does the arithmetic. As a reference point, IndexChex (the publisher of this site) has no free tier, charges per submission, and reports an 85%+ average standard-mode indexation rate from its weekly measurement on recurring URL sets, October 2026. Buyers wanting a free start usually try one of the vendors above first; SpeedyIndex alternatives compares the most common of them.
FAQ
Do free backlink indexers work?
Free discovery methods can lead Googlebot to a page, but they give no timing and no report. Free plans from paid vendors work like the paid product within a small allowance.
Does IndexChex have a free plan or trial?
No. IndexChex has no free trial and no signup credits; the smallest purchase is a $19.99 monthly plan or a $21.99 pack of 5,000 credits.
Is IndexNow a free way to index backlinks in Google?
IndexNow notifies participating search engines about URLs on sites you control. It is not a Google submission route and needs a key hosted on the site, so it does not help with third-party backlinks.
